Eligible Projects
For landowners throughout Elgin County, funding is available for a variety of environmental stewardship projects, including wetland creation, erosion control, and well decommissioning. Certain eligibility requirements must be met to qualify.
Important Notes:
- Projects must be within the County of Elgin.
- Projects must demonstrate an improvement to local surface and/or ground water quality and/or habitat.
- The landowner must complete and sign an application form.
- Approved funding is 50% to the maximum category grant cap
- Projects undertaken prior to approval are not guaranteed funding
- Eligible costs typically include: contractor fees, design/engineering costs, materials and labour (other than the applicant’s or applicant’s family)
- It is the responsibility of the Applicant to ensure all applicable permits are obtained and regulations followed.

Fences, crossings and watering devices to eliminate cattle access to watercourses

Berms and eavestroughs to divert clean water from manure and exercise yards

Riparian

Retiring fragile land through enhancement or restoration of wetland or riparian features to improve surface and groundwater quality

Other projects that demonstrate improved water quality or overall watershed health

Wellhead Protection
Pitless adapter caps, grading, sealing and upgrading well casings to prevent contamination.

Well Decommissioning
Properly decommissioning abandoned wells to eliminate the link between surface and ground water

Incentive Program
$20/acre for a maximum of 50 acres
